Each summer, students have the opportunity to take academic and enrichment classes at Central Catholic High School.
* Academic Classes meet Monday through Thursday - No Classes on Fridays!
* Academic Classes run from Wednesday, June 26 to Wednesday, August 1 * Enrichment Programs are available. See listing toward bottom of page.

2013 Summer Enrichment Programs for Grades 9 - 12 Study Skills in the Content AreaFor: Students entering Grade 9 Cost: $150
Dates: Five days, Monday, June 24 – Friday, June 28 Hours: 8:00 AM -11:00 AM
 “Study Skills in the Content Area” is a week-long course which focuses on skills that students need in order to achieve enhanced success in a college preparatory high school program. This course will present not only general study and organization techniques that can be applied across all curriculum areas, but it will also focus on subject specific strategies in content areas such as two-column notes and effective graphic organizers. The program will also address effective reading strategies and tools that contemporary textbooks use to help students both within the text and on the internet. |

 Succesful Writing for High School “Writing For High School” is a week long course which focuses on both the content and process of writing effectively across the high school curriculum. This course covers the different kinds of writing assignments and situations that students experience, efficient paragraph structure, the parts of the essay, and elements of style. Students will write in response to a series of questions and assignments designed to develop organization, coherence, and critical thinking as part of the writing process. |

 Pre-Algebra Power ReviewFor: Students entering Grade 9 Cost: $150
Dates: Four days, Monday, July 22 – Thursday, July 25 Hours: 8:00 AM -11:30 AM
 “Pre-Algebra Power Review” is a week long course which focuses on knowledge and content from previous math courses that will be important for success in Algebra I. This course will review and reinforce by practice: vocabulary related to mathematical concepts; operations on positive and negative whole numbers, decimals and fractions; plotted points in the coordinate plane; the concept of variables; order of operations and simplifying expressions. |

 Just in Time Algebra ReviewFor: Students entering Grades 10, 11, 12 Cost: $125
 “Just in Time Algebra Review” is a four-day course that reviews the basic principles of algebra needed for many junior year math courses and for the SAT. The course reviews key concepts from Algebra I and incorporates “Sketchpad” software to provide a more visual approach to more challenging topics such as systems of equations, slopes, and graphing functions. Additionally, students will incorporate the graphing calculator in visualizing and solving problems and equations. Requirements: Students should have completed two years of high school math. Each student needs a TI 83 graphing calculator. This course will be offered three times |

 Computer Applications and Emerging Technologies – MS Office & iWorksFor: Students entering Grade 9 Cost: $150 Dates: Four days, Monday, July 8 –Thursday, July 11 Hours: 8:00 AM -12:00 PM Instructor: Mrs. Jodi Kriner, Central Catholic High School
 “Computer Applications Computer Applications and Emerging Technologies” is a four-day, intensive, hands-on technology course. Using the Microsoft Office© 2007 suite & Apple iWorks, students will acquire the skills necessary to create documents, manipulate data using spreadsheets and create computer-generated presentations. Students who demonstrate proficiency with this software will be accelerated into Hot Topics in Computer Science, Course # 711. Students who sign up for this course will be required to have an iPad for the class and attend a 2 hr. iPad orientation session prior to the start date |

 Creative Writing: The Poetry WorkshopFor: Students entering Grade 10, 11, and 12 Cost: $150
Dates: Four Weeks, July 8 to August 1 Hours: Vary (see "Read More")
 Through "Creative Writing: The Poetry Workshop," students will read and analyze the poetry from various artists, create and workshop their poetry with their peers, assemble a mini-portfolio of their poetry, and present their original work in a joint live audience performance alongside the Playback Theater Summer Enrichment Session on Thursday, August 1, 2013. Meeting dates are as follows:
- Week One—July 8 & July 10 (10:00 am to 12:30 pm)
- Week Two—July 15 (10:00 am to 12:30 pm) and July 17 (11:00 am to 1:30 pm)
- Week Three—July 22 & July 24 (10:00 am to 12:30 pm)
- Week Four— Technical Rehearsal: Tuesday, July 30 (TBA)
- Final Performance: Thursday, August 1 (TBA)

 Playback Theater: Improvisation FormFor: Students entering Grade 10, 11, and 12 Cost: $165
Dates: Four Weeks, July 8 to August 1 Hours: Vary (click "Read More")
 "Playback Theater: Improvisation Form" is an intense, four week immersion into improvisational theater. Students will practice and develop their skills in listening and empathy, study Anne Bogart's Viewpoints (a theatrical technique focusing on gesture and movement), study and practice the improvisational form of playback theater in vocal warm-ups, stretching, yoga and movement-based stage exercises, and discuss honest story-telling. Students may have the opportunity to attend a playback performance and training session by the Boston-based troupe True Story Theater either on campus or off campus. Finally, students will utilize their knowledge and practice of the viewpoints of improvisational form to perform alongside original works of poetry from the Creative Writing Poetry Workshop Summer Session in front of a live audience on Thursday, August 1.
