COMMUNITY

Central Catholic High School was founded in 1935 to provide the opportunity for a Catholic high school education to the boys of Lawrence and vicinity. In 1996, the school became coeducational, to ensure the continued availability of a Catholic high school education to young women in Lawrence and surrounding communities.

For nearly seventy years, Central Catholic has been located near the banks of the Spicket River in the Arlington Neighborhood of Lawrence, Massachusetts. Among a few institutions that have remained in Lawrence over the same time period, Central Catholic continues to grow and thrive here. The campus is a key institutional anchor within the community.

Approximately 230 Central Catholic students, roughly 20% of the student body, live in the City of Lawrence. Like a magnet, the school daily draws hundreds of students and parents into the core city, many of whom would not otherwise have reason to visit Lawrence, creating opportunity for local small businesses, at many of which the school's students and staff are valued customers.

Students perform community service throughout Lawrence, and many alumni return to the city after college to serve in leadership positions. Central Catholic is an active participant in numerous civic and community groups and opens its doors to various organizations and neighbors for meetings and functions.
