Inherit the Wind Webquest

Mrs. Merrill: Honors English One

 

 

Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee’s play Inherit the Wind is, on its surface, a dramatization of the infamous 1925 trial of teacher John Scopes.  At its heart, however, is the playwrights’ plea to a nation caught in the jaws of McCarthyism to recognize the dangers of inhibiting freedom of thought and expression.

 

This WebQuest, which follows the class reading and discussion of the play, will have students probing deeper into the fictional manifestations of the conflict and the real-life people and events that influenced the play.
