Central Catholic Teacher Awarded Raytheon Grant

Raytheon Corporation has awarded a Math Hero Award and grant of $2,500 to Central Catholic math teacher, Jarrod Brown, through Raytheon’s “Math Moves U” program. The “Math Moves U” awards program recognizes 35 full-time mathematics teachers from across the USA who have made great strides in instilling a love of math in students and for their dedication to enriching math instruction in high schools across the US.

Brown was nominated for the Raytheon award by current and former students, Mary ‘15 and William Rayno ‘13, for his instructional creativity and patience, varied use of technology resources, and his ability to share his enthusiasm for mathematics with his students. Brown will use the Raytheon grant to complete his Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education.

Raytheon’s “Math Moves U’ program has also awarded a matching $2,500 grant to Central Catholic in Brown’s name. The matching grant will be utilized to fund “math apps” on students’ iPads and expand technology-based mathematics resources for students.

Brown, a 1998 Central Catholic graduate, earned a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. In his 10th year as a math instructor, Brown’s teaching experience includes leading classes in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 & Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
