The Eagle-Tribune: Central's Adamopoulos posts 200th win; Raiders crush Haverhill
From The Eagle-Tribune:
"I love this stadium (Lawrence Veterans Memorial Stadium), the big house as we call it, it’s neat to get the 200th win here," said Adamopoulos. "It’s a number, I don’t think it defines whether you are successful or not because there’s great coaches that have only won 80 games, but it’s neat to do it."
From The Boston Herald
"As I tell everyone, this is a program achievement. I tell all my coaches and former players that they are a big part of this. It was nice hearing from a lot of them."
Adamopoulos said many of his ways come from his father, Arthur Adamopoulos. A coaching icon in Peabody where he won 129 games in 20 years (1961-1981), Adamopoulos was a no-nonsense type who wasn’t interested in personal glory, preferring to see the credit given to his players.
"I think if my dad were alive and you asked him about me winning 200 games, he’d probably said something like 'big deal' or 'goody goody gumdrops'," Adamopoulos said with a laugh. "I remember when he was selected for the Hall of Fame, he was in Florida and didn’t want come to back for it. People were telling me you have to get your father to come because he wasn’t coming. We finally were able to get him to come.
"My father’s big thing was discipline. He always said kids responded to discipline if you were consistent with it. That’s something I’ve always tried to do throughout my coaching career."
After the big win, Coach A was recognized with a plaque for his incredible 200 victories and was celebrated by excited game-goers including his family, CCHS colleagues and his current and past loyal players.
He also established a Raider legacy with daughter Catherine (Adamopoulos '07) Osinski, son Zachary Adamapoulous '09 (Central Catholic Faculty Member), daughter Molly Adamopoulos '11, and son Brian Adamopoulos '13.
Congratulations, Coach Adamopoulos, on this wonderful achievement! Thank you for everything you have done for the Central Catholic Family.
