Rising Phoenix: Leadership & Sport Excellence Award

Rising Phoenix: Leadership & Sport Excellence Award

Congratulations to Cam Devanney '15, a rising senior at Elon University, for being selected as the 2019 recipient of the Colonial Athletic Association’s Leadership & Sport Excellence Award for Baseball!

About the Leadership and Sport Excellence Award

The award mirrors the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award, which is presented in men’s and women’s basketball, and the Chuck Boone Leadership Award, which is presented in football. One student-athlete was chosen from each of the 19 other sports sponsored by the CAA for embodying the highest standards of leadership, integrity, teamwork and sportsmanship in his or her academic and athletic achievements.

About Cam, from the Colonial Athletic Association

A four-time CAA Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree and two-time All-CAA honoree, Devanney has excelled in the classroom and on the field. Devanney majored in Project Management and posted a GPA of 3.52 GPA. He finished third in the CAA with a .335 batting average. He earned the Earl Danieley Memorial Sportsmanship Award in 2019 and has volunteered for events such as Truck or Treat Night and the Miracle League Baseball game. He also participated in the Dominican Republic Global Experience, conducting a clinic for local players and participating in English lessons.

Cam was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.

Congratulations, Cam, for representing the ‘highest standards of leadership, integrity, teamwork and sportsmanship!’

Raider Athletics represents a proud tradition of excellence that enriches the Central Catholic experience for both participants and spectators.

Our student-athletes bring home State, Sectional, and Conference Championships on a regular basis while representing the school community with pride.

Central Catholic offers twenty-seven (27) Varsity sports in competitions governed by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Merrimack Valley Conference (MVC) as well as two (2) seasons of Cheerleading under the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators' Association (MSSAA).

More than half of our student body, approximately 800 students, compete on at least one of these teams, an experience that fosters teamwork, dedication, sportsmanship, and the pursuit of excellence, lessons that carry over into all aspects of life.
