Summary
The Assistant Principal - Academic Dean (“Academic Dean”) is the lead administrator responsible for the academic regulations, policies and procedures of Central Catholic High School (“CCHS” or the “school”).
In consultation with the Principal, the Academic Dean carries out school policy and procedures and assists the Principal with any duties and activities necessary for the effective and efficient operation of the school.
The Academic Dean is a member of the Principal’s administrative team and reports directly to the Principal.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the Principal to
- Develop a unity of purpose essential for the success of the school.
- Assist in such areas as curriculum development, school calendar, handbooks and setting agenda for faculty meetings.
- Coordinate Graduation.
- Interview potential transfer students.
- Consult on the renewal of teacher contracts.
- Assists in interviewing prospective teachers.
- Coordinates and supervises the administrative aspects of progress and grade reporting.
- Administers, supports users and maintains teacher gradebooks.
- Administers, supports users and maintains Administrators Plus database.
- Determines student eligibility for honor roll and quarterly awards.
- Determines eligibility of students for extracurricular participation based on academic standing and notifies students, parents, administration, athletic and/or activities director, of students placed on Academic Probation.
- Organizes and monitors the Academic Support program.
- Implements and enforces the academic policies of the school.
- In consultation with the Director of School Counseling, the Academic Dean
- Ensures the accuracy of academic reports and permanent records.
- Assures that all requirements are fulfilled by prospective graduates.
- Evaluates transcripts and determines schedules for transfer students.
- Coordinates Underclassmen Academic Awards Night.
- Supervises the recording of all grades on permanent record cards.
- Meets regularly with school counselors to discuss the academic success and placement of students.
- In consultation with the school counselor, determines changes in a student’s schedule and notifies faculty of changes to be made.
- Plans, develops and publishes exam schedules.
- Handles situations involving academic dishonesty, and communicates with the Assistant Principals for Student Success and faculty on academic penalties related to such.
- Consults with the Summer Term Principal on summer course offerings and receives and communicates final grade reports to students and families.
- Meets with and is a member of the Academic Advisory Team.
- Attends regular administrative team meetings, advises the President and Principal, and carries out decisions of the chief school officers.
- With the Assistant Principal for Teaching & Learning coordinates the Dual Enrollment programs.
- Is a member of the Admissions Committee.
- Other duties as assigned that are consistent with the foregoing responsibilities and objectives.
Responsibilities for Supervision of Other Employees
All teachers and other educational personnel are subordinate to the Assistant Principal - Academic Dean, who is particularly responsible for ensuring that staff members fulfill their duties in meeting the educational needs of the student body in alignment with the school’s academic policies and regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years successful experience in a teaching or leadership role at the secondary level.
- Master degree in education or a related field.
- Commitment to the mission of CCHS and the Marist philosophy.
- Experience and proficiency in use of school management software.
- Ability to develop and monitor practices that promote academic success.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build and facilitate a team approach amongst curricular departments.
- Exemplary communication skills with faculty, staff, students and parents.
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality and integrity.
- Ability to direct and supervise subordinates while maintaining effective working relationships among faculty and staff.
Compensation: Salary & Benefits
Central Catholic High School is committed to offering salaries and benefits that are highly competitive relative to similar Catholic secondary schools. Compensation will be commensurate with level of education and experience/certifications.
