Central Catholic's Innovative Learning Academy for Middle School Students
Join the Central Catholic Innovative Learning Academy for Friday Night Tech+ Sessions for 6th, 7th, & 8th graders being held on the following dates:
- Friday, January 20, 2023
- Friday, February 10, 2023
Each session is a one-night program held from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM and includes a pizza dinner.
Sessions are offered at no cost to participants. Funding is provided by program partners and the Innovative Learning Academy.
Coding with Sphero SPRK+ Robotics
Interested in coding and robots? In this session, students will program the Sphero SPRK+ robotic ball and Swift Playgrounds to drive, play games, learn to code, and much more. Throughout the session, students will learn programming fundamentals by using block- style coding and work in teams to complete fun challenges.

Take Flight - Learn to Fly a Drone
Take to the skies with mini drones! This session introduces participants to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by first learning basic safety of flying drones. Participants will then progress to flying the drone, including: various skill challenges, learning to maneuver through an obstacle course and preparing for a final competition.

CSI Central: Escape Room Challenge
In this session, participants will be introduced to the different scientific fields involved in crime investigation in order to complete the CSI Escape Room Challenge! Topics will include fingerprints, blood spatter, hair and fiber analysis, and more!

Kinetic Creations
Make the laws of physics real! In your own hands! Join this session to actively experience the way things work and move in our universe and apply this knowledge to design and make your own machine. Friday night ILA Tech+ Nights will focus on Newton's Laws and the Engineering Design Process in creating balloon and rubber band powered vehicles. Who can make the best racer?! Physics is fun!

Digital Photography Exploration
Join us to learn about digital photography techniques by completing a visual scavenger hunt! Students will learn basic composition tips and then search through the art studio to find and create images that fulfill a range of prompts. Prompts will include terms like reflections, liquid, contrasting textures, leading lines, shadows and more!

VEX IQ Robotics
Interested in Robotics? Calling all young engineers!! This session introduces students to the VEX IQ platform. Participants will have fun while learning the process of constructing and designing a robot that can solve simple tasks. Students will be actively involved in creative thinking, problem solving, and teamwork skills as well as developing skills in STEAM.
