Campus Ministry Mural

A beautiful mural now welcomes visitors to the Campus Ministry Office.

Artist Ellen Murphy Dougan hand painted this piece over the summer. Ellen Murphy Dougan is the mother of Mrs. Maureen Shanahan, Coordinator of the Marist Service Experience and our Choral Director. Ellen is also the mother-in-law of Mr. Niall Shanahan, Social Studies Faculty.

“There is lots of hidden symbolism in the mural,” notes Mrs. Maureen Shanahan.

"The little flowers in front represent our patroness, St. Thérèse; the blue flowers lining the path represent Mary, our Mother. There is a traditional Marist 'M' with stars hidden in the trees, and lots of birds to symbolize the Holy Spirit in the woods. There is a lot of movement and chaos in the woods, but God is there, too. Jesus is inviting the students to walk away from the woods and onto the path that leads to the light."

"We hope students, staff and other visitors can be drawn into the invitation for an encounter with Jesus by contemplating the mural."
