This summer, a group of 18 students and two faculty & staff members traveled to the Dominican Republic and served in a host community for one week on a water project with the BLUE Missions Group.

Their goal: water for all, forever.

"Living in the Moment"

Dr. Evelyn Hidalgo offered the following perspective on the service trip.

"I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love what I do. I had the incredible opportunity to travel with 18 of my students to the community of Arroyo Ancho Arriba in the province of Puerto Plata Dominican Republic to work on a water project with BLUE Missions."

"I couldn’t be more proud of our Central Catholic High School students who embraced a community in need of water with love and a willingness to collaborate and never complain. They dug trenches, carried heavy PVC pipes uphill, laid cement, tied rebar, painted and hiked a treacherous 10K mountain to reach the source of water."

"They tried new food, slept in cots in tight quarters in the heat, bathed with buckets, made friends, played games, and danced."

"It was a beautiful thing to experience and watch them live a life with no cell phones. They were fully immersed in 'Living in the Moment,' which is the BLUE Missions answer to when the kids would ask, 'What’s next?'"

"The people there became family and have forever changed our lives. We aspire to be more like them. Jorge Rodriguez BLUE Missions Vice President, asked the students to ponder on this question: Who really are the poor?"

BLUE Missions is a non-profit organization with a mission of empowering the youth to advocate for a world where there is water for all, forever. Through service projects and sustainability education, BLUE connects families in Latin America to clean, fresh water for the last 15 years.
