Lighting the Flame of Marist Leadership

Lighting the Flame of Marist Leadership

At the close of each academic year, student leaders travel to Camp Marist on Ossipee Lake (NH) for Central Catholic's Camp Champagnat Leadership Institute, aka Camp Champ.

Camp Champ is an overnight, student-organized Marist Leadership camp for rising CCHS sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

This year's theme was The 2024 Olympic Games - Camp Marist.

"I hope each student was able to walk away with new friendships and a stronger sense of self," states Ms. Taylor Sacco '16, Director of Camp Champ and Director of Admissions.

"From the laughs and lessons learned during 'The Wall' painting challenge, to the high stakes morning full of fun at the Steeplechase, to the thrilling afternoon sailing Lake Ossipee, to the quiet, reflective evening in the Chapel, and the many hours spent singing by the fire, each moment was truly special."

"Thank you to the students for bringing their unique gifts and personalities to camp. I'm so proud of each of them for the way they embraced each challenge and supported one another, and I'm confident that they will demonstrate the qualities of Communication, Resilience, Teamwork, Gratitude, and Love as they continue to build upon their leadership skills.

About the Camp Champagnat Leadership Institute

Group photo

Camp Champagnat is a three-day, two-night leadership experience held after the conclusion of the academic year. The experience helps instill and develop Marist leadership qualities within our students and rising leaders as they prepare for the upcoming year.

Over the course of the three days, students explore several different leadership qualities through activities and fun bonding exercises.

Participants are expected to play a leadership role at CCHS during the upcoming school year, and informal gatherings of participants are held throughout the school year to build on their leadership skills and keep the excitement going.

Camp Champ promotes leadership in the Marist tradition with a focus on understanding Saint Marcellin Champagnat's vision, promoting unity through activities and games, and building community and family spirit.

Being Marist

As Marists, we believe strongly in the importance and power of family; it’s at the very heart of the Central Catholic experience.

So much of what our alumni remember most—the abiding respect for everyone in our community, our commitment to the least favored, the dedication of our faculty, and the unbreakable bonds of friendship, can be traced directly back to the Marist tradition of family spirit.

The Five Pillars of our Marist Identity

The Five Pillars of Marist Identity were introduced by the Marist Province in 2015 as ideals to which all Marists, students and adults alike, should commit to.

The Pillars are:

Presence… caring for each other, seeking relationships founded on love, being attentive and welcoming with a sense of openness

Simplicity… being straightforward and genuine, humble and modest, ‘doing good quietly’

Family Spirit… relating to each other as members of a loving family, building community, offering the warmth of welcoming, acceptance and belonging, sharing our successes and failures, setting clear standards of honesty, mutual respect, and tolerance

Love of Work… being generous of heart, constant, and persevering in our daily work, confident, visionary, decisive in meeting the needs of our community and encouraging each other to discover the dignity of our work with young people and with each other

In the Way of Mary… seeing Mary as a perfect model of being Marist, tender, strong, constant in faith, open to God’s calling us to our own journey of discipleship
