Kerri Finneran '25 Named MIAA Athlete of the Year


Kerri Finneran '25 Named MIAA Athlete of the Year

Congratulations to Kerri Finneran '25 on two additional honors as she concludes one of the most accomplished athletic careers in CCHS history! Kerri has been named the District 4 Phelps Scholar and the Will McDonough/MIAA Athlete of the Year.

Kerri is an outstanding three-sport athlete, excelling in lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball.

Kerri helped lead Raider Girls Lacrosse to their first-ever state championship in 2024. She scored 427 career goals, third most in state history.

In field hockey, Kerri was a three-year captain and set the CCHS record for goals (102), assists (49), points (151), and most games played.

In addition, she is Central Catholic's fourth all-time leading scorer in basketball and was named the MVC Player of the Year for five consecutive seasons across her three sports.

At Commencement, Kerry was presented with the Mary I. Kilcoyne MemorialAward as the graduating class's top female student-athlete.

Next year, she'll be competing at the D1 level for the UMass Women's Lacrosse Team

About the Will McDonough Athlete of the Year Award

The Will McDonough Athlete of the Year award is given out annually by the Boston Globe to male and female athletes who have demonstrated excellence in multiple sports and are graduating seniors.The award was established in honor of the late Will McDonough, a longtime Globe columnist, and is presented alongside other Globe Foundation awards. The award is part of the Globe Foundation/Richard J. Phelps Scholar-Athlete Awards program, which also includes scholar-athlete awards and NEPSAC Athlete of the Year honors. The awards were presented at a ceremony held at Fenway Park, 

About the Richard J. Phelps Scholar-Athlete Awards

The Richard J. Phelps Scholar-Athlete program honors 18 seniors from seven MIAA districts, the city of Boston, and Eastern Massachusetts prep schools, recognizing excellence in sports, academics, and community service.

Raider Athletics represents a proud tradition of teamwork and excellence that enriches the Central Catholic experience for both participants and spectators.

We offer 30 Varsity Sports in competitions governed by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), the Merrimack Valley Conference (MVC), and the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association (MSSAA).

Our student-athletes bring home State, Sectional, and Conference Championships on a regular basis while representing the school community with pride.
