Meet Our New Faculty & Staff

The Central Catholic community is excited to welcome our newest group of dedicated educators and staff members as we begin the 2026-2027 School Year.

Mrs. Audra (Hunt '09) Abbatiello

Senior Staff Accountant

Please join us in extending a warm welcome home to Mrs. Abbatiello, who joined Central Catholic High School as our new Senior Staff Accountant in the Business Office in August 2026.

Publications

"I've written a number of critical essays for publications like The Hemingway Review, but I'm most proud of writing and editing the book Readings in Robert Frost shortly after I got out of grad school. He's a Lawrence guy via transplant!"

Why did you choose to pursue a career in education?

"My own experience as a student in Catholic schools (grades 1 through grad school!) was nothing short of transformative. Even though I couldn't name it at the time, from day one I experienced the care for the "whole person" that is the hallmark of Catholic schools. I needed to pay back the debt I owed to all of the teachers and staff who encouraged me, advised me, helped me to get scholarships, and helped me to grow closer to God. I've worked in the Greater Boston area from being an English instructor and dean at Boston College to being a principal of an elementary-middle school, but it took me 30 years to come to my hometown!"

Why Central Catholic?

"Three reasons. First, I'm from Lawrence, and Central Catholic has been the academic gem of Lawrence since before I was born."

"Second, wow, does our Marist charism resonate with me. Every day I look forward to stopping what I'm doing and praying morning and night with our whole community. We really do 'pray for each other.'"

"And finally - it's the people. Raiders show up for one another. We share each others joys and sorrows, and we challenge each other to be our best.

What do you like most about working with high school students?

"Well, I can tell you what I love about Central Catholic students - they are kind, courteous, hard-working kids. They aren't afraid to be "both/and" - a theater kid and an honors math student; a hockey player and a retreat leader. (I wasn't that cool in high school.)"

Hobbies & Interests

"I'm a nerd. I really love cooking (I can cook perfectly al dente pasta). I love reading. My dad taught me to love watching sports, James Bond movies, and the Three Stooges. And I'm a decent golfer despite a total lack of a short game."

Community Service & Volunteering

"My husband and I support the Boys and Girls Club of the North Country. In rural Northern NH where my husband spent many summers, there are very few social support services for kids, many of whom work on family farms and travel great distances just to get to school. The Boys & Girls Club provides afterschool enrichment and much more."

Family

"I'm an only child who married a guy with 10 siblings! My husband Stephen and our dog Snoopy have me wrapped around their little finger. Or paw."

Raider Legacy

"Yes - my mom! St Mary's class of 1948."

Their support and passion for teaching made a lasting impact on me and inspired me to want to make that same positive difference in the lives of others. I hope to be that person to the students here at Central."

Why Central Catholic?

Central Catholic is a place where faith, education, character, service, and community come together to help students grow not only academically, but also into compassionate, responsible, and well-rounded young people."

Why Central Catholic?

Education
  • Bachelor of Arts, Sociology
Why did you choose to pursue a career in education?

"I wanted to work in education with tomorrow's change makers."

Why Central Catholic?

"Central Catholic has been a part of my life for more than 25 years, so the opportunity to work here feels very personal to me."

"My father, Felix Nunez (Buildings & Grounds), began working at Central Catholic as part of the Maintenance team in 2000. When I was in middle school, he would bring me to athletic games and theater shows and always spoke highly of Central and the people here."

"I got to experience Central Catholic firsthand as a student. I had teachers that supported me, believed in me and encouraged me even when I doubted myself. When my teachers realized Mr. Nunez was my dad, they would always tell me what a great man he was. Hearing people speak so highly of my father brought me an incredible sense of joy and pride. Central truly felt like a second home to me, and I always knew I wanted to find my way back and give back to the community that had such a positive impact on my life."

What do you like most about working with high school students?

"What draws me to working at a high school is the opportunity to make that same kind of impact on students. Some of the most meaningful lessons come from the relationships they build, the challenges they face, the mistakes they learn from, and the adults who take the time to listen and support them. Students need to know that the adults around them genuinely care about them, believe in them and are there to support them. I would love to help guide students through this important stage of their lives as they grow from teenager to young adult while providing the same encouragement, support and belief in them that so many of my teachers gave me, some of who I now call my colleagues."

These experiences have shaped both my personal values and my professional commitment to supporting others and making a positive impact."

Family

"One of the most important parts of my life is my family. I am the proud mother of two daughters, Thefania, who is 14 years old, and Taraji, who is 12 years old. Being a parent has taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of creating supportive environments where young people can learn, grow, and thrive."

Fun Fact

"A fun fact about me is that my dad is a king in a small town in West Africa, Ghana called Sabrepor, which makes me a real life 'Princess.'"
