College Reps Show Seniors the Write Stuff When It Comes to Essays
For the seventh consecutive year, Central Catholic's innovative The Write Stuff: College Essay Review Day offered 100 Central Catholic seniors the rare opportunity to have their college essays reviewed by professional college representatives before students submit applications to their best fit schools.
About The Write Stuff: College Essay Review Day
Developed and organized by the Office of School & College Counseling, this event pairs students with experienced College Admissions Representatives.
Leading up to the event, seniors registered by emailing a rough draft of their college essay to a dedicated email account. Once received, the essays were shared with the college representatives to review the essay and have suggestions ready to share with students.
From 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on October 11 in Central Catholic's Catalano Memorial Library, each student had one-on-one meetings with an assigned college representative to discuss their essay that they submit ahead of time to the admissions rep for review.
Representatives from 15 college and universities participated, including:
- Fairfield University
- Fitchburg State University
- Framingham State University
- Gordon College
- Le Moyne College
- Merrimack College
- Roger Williams University
- University of New Hampshire
- Saint Anselm College
- Suffolk University
- UMass Boston
- UMass Lowell
- University of Vermont
- Western New England University
"These college admission representatives are seasoned experts on what constitutes an impactful college essay, and our seniors are on the receiving end of that valuable knowledge," said Mr. Kevin McCarthy, Director of School & College Counseling at Central Catholic.
"The timing of this event is perfect for students to take the feedback, adjust their essay accordingly and submit to colleges and universities for early application deadlines."
