Raider Cheerleaders Raise Funds for Dana-Farber and Earn Clinic with Patriots Cheer Team

Raider Cheerleaders Raise Funds for Dana-Farber and Earn Clinic with Patriots Cheer Team

After raising over $2,400 for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, the CCHS Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleading Teams recently earned the privilege to attend a training clinic with the New England Patriots cheerleaders at Gillette Stadium in May 2019.

During the clinic, the Patriots cheerleaders will teach the Raiders cheer team new material that can be used in the future, including new stunts, cheers, and dances. The CCHS team will join eight other teams from across the nation that raised the most money through the annual Cheer for Dana-Farber fundraising program.

Ms. Olivia Cappuccio '19, a captain for the CCHS Varsity Cheerleading team, led the charge to get this project off the ground since she has a personal connection to Dana-Farber.

“I became familiar with Dana-Farber while my dad was sick in 2008. He received his treatment there, and the staff was outstanding, always looking out for me and my siblings who were very young at the time,” said Ms. Cappuccio. “I saw the Cheer for Dana-Farber Program and figured it’s the perfect way for me to get involved with Dana-Farber, by putting together two things I love - cheerleading and volunteering! A few other members of the cheerleading teams have connections with Dana-Farber, like me, and we all felt the same push to give back.”

Both the JV and Varsity Cheerleading teams began raising funds by selling bracelets on campus, in addition to holding a bake sale that raised a large portion of the money. Also, members of the team directly reached out to family members and friends, and shared the information via social media to spread the word.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to participate in the clinic!” said Ms. Cappuccio. “In the end though, it’s not about the prizes, it’s about helping the millions of patients impacted by cancer each day.”

CCHS Varsity Cheerleading Coach Mrs. Ashley Hashem '01 supported the team throughout their fundraising efforts. “I always remind the cheerleaders that being a part of this team is about more than winning competitions and cheering at games. It’s about being a part of something special and making a difference. This fundraising effort was an example of that, and just one of many reasons that makes this team so special. I’m very proud of them.”

Congratulations to our Raider cheerleaders for earning a clinic with the Patriots cheerleaders, but most importantly, for living the CCHS mission of supporting the "least favored" in our world!
