Science Research: Taking Care of the World Around Us

Science Research: Taking Care of the World Around Us

Congratulations to Aidan Bowler '20, a senior biology major at the College of the Holy Cross who recently participated in a college summer research project: How Road Salt Affects The Blackstone: Holy Cross Summer Research 2023.

Winters in New England call for snow, and the salts used on roads can have harmful effects on our environment.

Aidan and Holy Cross classmate Francisco Luc Zafon-Whalen worked with Assistant Professor Pedro Torres to research the impact road salts have on Worcester's Blackstone River.

Aidan's particular focus was the impact the salt had on the invertebrates (yes - the bugs!)
